Quotes:
From Douglas Simon, D S Simon Media
One of the things I tell my employees at D S Simon Media is to look at who’s the person who can have the most positive impact on your career here. That’s probably a good person to think about having as a mentor.”
From Andrew McCaskill, Nielson
Sometimes racism is more like bias. We see young people of color languishing in positions in the middle where they just can’t get over the hump and they don’t have champions inside the organization. They’ll get interesting feedback in reviews like he’s not polished or not client ready.
From Judith, Weber Shandwick
I define diversity in a very broad way and then I also think about it in terms of what we need in this industry. Broadly, diversity is who we are, it is all the attributes that go into making us interact with people the way we do. It is race, its gender, its religion, its socioeconomic background, its education, it is where you live and it is age. It is all sorts of things. In this industry we’ve talked about diversity of thought. I believe that diversity of thought comes from diversity of people. If we get the right diversity of people we’re going to have tons of diversity of thought.
From Helen C. Shelton, Finn Partners
If anybody is watching this, maybe it’s a young person, and you’re feeling like I can’t do this, or they don’t like me at my job or I don’t feel confident. I say draw on yourself, draw on what you know, draw on your ancestors and their experiences. Look at others and look at the book get some inspiration because nobody is going to make it easy. Nobody’s going to promote diversity, you’ve got to do it.
