Alicia Hart, Media Relations Manager at Macy’s was interviewed by Carolina Osma, Senior Marketing Associate at D S Simon Media. They spoke about Alicia’s big career break, advice for people starting out and the best advice she ever received from a mentor or older colleague.

CAROLINA: Hi I’m Carolina Osma, Senior Marketing Associate at D S Simon Media and I’m here with Alicia she is a Media Relations Manager at Macy’s and she’s also an honoree at the 15 Under 35 Awards. So congratulations on your award. So what was a key moment in your career the lead you to success?

ALICIA: I would say at an agency I was at very early on in my career, I was able to lead a project and identify a really great sponsorship to help relaunch a product line for one of my clients and end up being really successful in something they still sponsor today.

CAROLINA: Awesome. And so when you were just starting out in PR, what was the best tip or advice that a mentor gave you?

ALICIA: I would say to always ask for feedback on how you’re doing. So that way, you can kind of take charge of your career and know what you’re doing great, what you can do better in, and then kind of pivot from there.

CAROLINA: OK. So say you were working maybe with a much younger colleague and they were just starting out in the industry. What piece of advice would you give to them?

ALICIA: I would say be a sponge and look to ask as many questions as possible, and then also look to get involved with your company or agency’s culture because sometimes that’s the way that you can meet people and then also be visible to senior leadership.
