NICK: I’m Nicholas Kost, Account Executive at D S Simon Media and I’m here with Megan Milano of Hunter PR who’s just been recognized as a 15 Under 35 winner. Congratulations.
MEGAN: Thank you. It’s great to be here.
NICK: So let’s start off with maybe a piece of advice for the younger generation that just got into the industry?
MEGAN: Sure sure. So I would definitely say always be a student to the game. So when you come in at the entry level consider yourself a sponge. Retain as much as you can and then take the rest of your career to try everything out and see what works for you. So always be a student to the game, will probably be the best bet.
NICK: Wonderful. Maybe a piece of advice that you got in the past from a colleague or mentor that’s really helped shape your career?
MEGAN: Sure. So I would have to say learn how to brag about yourself in a way that’s comfortable for you. So when I first heard that I was horrified, because no one likes a show boater. But I realized that women aren’t very easy at taking credit for their accomplishments. So were I adverse, we’re hardwired to be humble. So definitely learn to find a balance that works for you because everyone should know how awesome you are.
NICK: I totally agree. And maybe a key moment in your career that has really helped shape a successful career path?
MEGAN: Oh probably would be my two not one but two internships that I’ve had, when you’re coming up in the game. You realized very quickly that you have to earn your rights. So I would say finding out after my first internship that I wasn’t getting a job was really humbling and made me that much more determined to get hired and my second internship which luckily I did.
NICK: Well wonderful. Thank you very much and congratulations and enjoy the rest of the night.
